SS09 DOLL ILLUSION
This collection is a comment to the perfect woman.
The idea is based on the doll, as we know it from the fashion world. The doll in all its perfection. Today’s modern women aim to reach the highest attainable value of being a woman regarding look, job, social status – to put it bluntly: in every little piece of our life.
We see these perfect women every day – they really do exist. Or do they? Isn’t it only a perception of reality? I believe that the attempt to create this illusion of the perfect is nothing more than destructive.
Instead we all should learn to appreciate the crookedness that everything contains. Get behind the polished surfaces – that’s where things get interesting. This is the field of tension and it couldn’t be put more clearly than by Leonard Cohen when he says: “There’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”.
This crookedness has been the key aspect in the process of creating my newest collection. I’ve used asymmetry to make it unpredictable and interesting. I’ve destroyed the perfect lines and shapes and by doing so, challenged the illusion of the so-called perfect.
